Elsberry Hardware; small town business supports a small town in a big way
Shown above is Elsberry Hardware owner and Operator Karen Sheets (Left) along with one of her most experienced staff members Nancy Chier. Elsberry Hardware has been in business, as a hardware store, for 24-years.
For 24-years, Karen Sheets has offered something to Elsberry that many businesses, homeowners and project junkies have grown to rely on, whether it’s nails and screws or heaters and paint.
Elsberry Hardware, which was originally a plumbing supply company and used to be located a few small blocks up the road from it’s present location at 212 Broadway, was supposed to be something for Sheets dad to do during his retirement years, as he was big into construction. However, following his passing she decided to keep the business going herself.
“My family has always been big into construction of some form or fashion,” said Sheets. “So although prior to this I was a stay at home mom, I knew the foundation and we started very small. Now we have a bigger sales floor, more product, more knowledgeable staff, added several different things like our selection of screens and glass, our ability to sharpen chainsaw chains and so much more.”
Beyond the day-to-day needs of the customers, Sheets is also a big supporter of working with the community for the community. In fact, for as long as she can remember they have always tried to keep at least one high school student on site, both boy’s and girls.
