Elsberry paper wins big in state contest
The Elsberry Democrat won awards in eight categories for the 2012 Missouri Press Association Better Newspaper Contest. One of the biggest awards they received was a first place plaque for Best News Photograph.
The Elsberry Democrat has always seemed to pride their selves on providing the best news coverage for the Elsberry community for 112 years, making it one of the oldest papers in the state.
With a want to see how they would stand against other weekly papers in the state, The Democrat decided to participate in the 2012 Missouri Press Association Better Newspaper Contest, where they were able to win in eight categories.
“I think this was a great chance for us not only to see how well we could do but also where we could improve,” said Michael Short, publisher for The Democrat. “We are always looking for new ways to improve on how we deliver news or the content that goes in our papers. I think this not only showed our strengths but some of the things we could put more focus on going forward.”
