The Silex area community woke up Sunday morning with the tragic news of a death of one teen and two other teens seriously injured. Throughout the day and as the word spread, other people in neighboring schools and communities reached out, provided comfort.
The one-car crash Sunday morning (Sept. 9) was in Lincoln County, according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred at 12:01 a.m. on Kelch Road, 1.5 miles north of Route (PP).
According to the report, Trent Huber, 16, of Silex, was driving a 2002 Ford Ranger when he lost control of the vehicle. The Ranger went off the right side of the roadway, struck a culvert, telephone pole and two trees. It overturned, ejecting two passengers, Geoffrey Cox, 16 and Joshua Adams, 16, both of Silex.
Huber was pronounced deceased at the scene by Lincoln County Coroner Robert Shramek. Adams was flown to Children’s Hospital in St. Louis and Cox was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake Saint Louis. Both their injuries were listed as serious. It was unknown whether Cox and Adams were using seat belts. Huber was not.
