United Methodist Church in Elsberry makes a splash during VBS week

The United Methodist Church held their annual Vocational Bible School this past week with the theme of water in the bible.

Approximately 70 children gathered to learn such stories as “Noah and the Ark” and “The Woman at the Well.” United Methodist Church Pastor Paul Garven said the children came together every day for worship and songs.

“The children brought their offerings of canned food for the Food Pantry or monetary offerings, which we sent to the Heifer Project International, to purchase breeding stock for third world villages,” Garven said. “We collected approximately 185 cans of food and over $130. It was an exciting week and everyone seemed to come away with new and exciting stories of water and the bible.”

Marlene Frein directed the United Methodist Church Vocational Bible School Program along with approximately 27 other volunteers, who helped as teachers, snack preparers, activity coordinators and lunch workers.
