Lincoln County Relay for Life & Troy FFA Alumni Association will once again host the 6th Annual Rodeo to benefit both of these charitable organizations at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 24 and 25 at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds in Troy.
Amber Shafer and Mary Lou Thompson, Chairpersons, are hosting the Missouri Rodeo Cowboys Association and United Rodeo Association amateur rodeo with livestock from Outlaw 5J Rodeo with great determination and faith in the community. Lincoln County Relay for Life is one of the largest charities the community raises funds for throughout the year, which is a part of the American Cancer Society.
“There is a great need to find a cure for cancer, and if we can do something to help, we want to be a part of it,” Shafer said. The Troy FFA Alumni Association was formed in 2004 to provide scholarships for Senior Troy FFA Members furthering their education. Both Amber was President of the Troy FFA chapter, now the Alumni Treasurer, and would have loved the opportunity to have a chance at these scholarships. “If we can find a way to continuously add funds, we can provide scholarships for years to come,” she added.
The event is sponsored by Wrangler’s “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” promotional campaign.
“This is a fun way to educate the community and cowboys alike that breast cancer affects all of us because we all have a mother, sister, or other family member that could be affected,” Shafer said. “The challenge is extended to come out and wear pink, if you’re tough enough.”
Anyone interested in attending can purchase advanced tickets at any Peoples Bank & Trust location, American Family Insurance-Don Thompson Agency, Thornhill Real Estate & Auction, Parkside Mini-Mart, or any Troy FFA member.
Children 5 and under are free. Kids 6-12 are $5 in advance or $7 at the gate. Adults are $7 in advance, or $10 at the gate. It will be held rain or shine both nights.
“Over the last 5 years, the rodeo has raised $81,520.52,” Shafer said. “We can only hope to keep it growing.”
