Will fireworks return to Elsberry?
On Aug. 6 the city of Elsberry held a meeting at City Hall to discuss the possibility of bringing fireworks back to town for July 4, 2015 along with a revival of the ‘Old Glory Jubilee’ celebration that had been a regular part of Elsberry’s Independence Day Festivities until several years ago.
The meeting was open to anyone in the community with an interest in donating the time and effort necessary to get the project off the ground.
Elsberry Mayor Terry Martin presided over the informal event.
In attendance were Elsberry City Clerk Jo Ann Cordsiemon, Melissa Mitchell, Bobbie Waggoner, Joe Brockman, Marilyn Martin, Amanda Holland, Lauren Holland, Gina McNelly and Adam Presswood from The Elsberry Democrat.
Mayor Martin opened the discussion by suggesting that, should the ‘Old Glory Jubilee’ celebration be revived, the festivities should take place at the Elsberry City Park and should include a parade, old-fashioned games, vendors, food and fireworks.
Martin said he would like to see the fireworks display take place at Page Branch Park in Elsberry.
“I think that would be kind of neat,” said Martin.
Brockman agreed, saying that he felt it would be a good way to utilize both parks during the event.
