The 21st Century Community Learning Center grant in the Elsberry R-II school district has been renewed for the 2014-2015 school year.
The $199,422.00 renewal will provide 80 percent of the funds necessary to operate the Explorer’s Club afterschool program.
Tuition will support the remaining portion.
The Elsberry R-II Explorer’s Club program served over 100 students in grades preschool through sixth last school year.
Families pay tuition that is based on income for their children to attend.
Helping working families is a key component of the program, which is why families can choose to pick students up any time between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. or utilize the bus service that is available every day.
Students that attend Explorer’s Club have snack, recreation, homework assistance and educational enrichment opportunities every day.
The after school program puts a priority on homework completion for all students.
After homework is complete students get the opportunity to investigate learning in new ways with hands-on experiences and technology.
A highlight for students who are finished with homework is getting to select which activity they want to do during the final portion of the evening.
Some student favorites include duct tape club, science club, basketball club, iPads, and Lego club.
All 21st CCLC grants rely on community partnerships.
Currently the Explorer’s Club partners with the Elsberry FFA, EHS A+ Program, and the University of Missouri Extension Center.
These partnerships provide resources, experiences and activities for our students.
The Explorer’s Club is always looking for new partners and welcomes the opportunity to speak to various organizations within the community regarding potential partnership.
Anyone wanting more information or having a desire for Explorer’s Club staff to speak to a particular club or community organization can contact Amanda Seeley, or Jocelyn Kreuger at 898-5554 x 267.
The Elsberry R-II Explorer’s Club will offer open enrollment for students in grades K-6 on Aug. 12-13 from 3:00 p.m. until 6 p.m. in the Explorer’s Club office.
All families wishing to participate in the program will need to fill out enrollment packets at this time.
Full and partial week attendance is available.
During enrollment families will be filling out basic forms, making payment arrangements, selecting a bus preference and receiving the first quarter’s enrollment calendar.
Families should be prepared to fill out all of these papers at this time.
Once afterschool classrooms are full, a waiting list will be established for future enrollments.
Anyone with questions about enrollment is encouraged to leave a message with the Explorer’s Club office at (573) 898-5554 x267.
The first day of student attendance at Explorer’s Club is Aug. 18.
