Dreams of a better life
In the April 9 installment of “15 Seconds of Fame”, The Elsberry Democrat introduced its readers to Svetlana Johnson, a 23 year-old Russian woman working in the field of outside sales.
As in other installments of that particular segment, Johnson shared with readers some basic facts about herself, including her favorite food, movie, television show, etc.
It turns out, however, that Johnson has a much more interesting story to tell than that.
She was born in Ukraine in 1991 to a mother who was addicted to drugs and a father who was very abusive.
“My mom was very much into drugs and partying,” said Johnson. “That’s what she ended up dying from. My father was a gypsy. He wasn’t a very nice person. He was abusive to my mom and put her in comas. When my mom was six months pregnant with me they had to do an emergency C-section in order to remove me from her because he had beaten her to a pulp.”
Johnson’s mother survived that particular incident and later gave birth to another child, Johnson’s younger brother.
Johnson and her brother lived with their parents until the death of their mother.
“She died nine days after her 31st birthday due to drugs, alcohol and very severe abuse,” said Johnson.
Johnson said the loss of her mother didn’t really make much of a change in her young life.
