Elsberry FFA Member SPOTLIGHT

Alex B.

Name: Alex Boedeker
Office: 2013-2014 Chapter Parliamentarian
Parents: Jim and Wendy Boedeker
FFA Chapter: Elsberry FFA
FFA Advisors: Mr. Jason Vandivort, Mr. George Nieters, and Mr. Mike McCrory

How are you involved in agriculture? Besides my SAE I also help out with milking cattle at our family’s dairy farm, as well as feeding calves, helping with cutting wood for heating the milk barn, and other miscellaneous work.  During the summer months I help as much as I can when it comes to picking up straw and haybales that are out in the field.

How are you involved with FFA?  I am the chapter Parliamentarian and I also participate in events such as Trapshooting during the fall, and I am participating in the Livestock Judging contest as well as the Ag Sales contest during this spring.  In the past I have done Dairy Cattle Evaluation and the FFA Knowledge contest teams, which I have went to state in both.

What is your Supervised Agriculture Experience Program? My SAE is Dairy Cattle Entrepreneurship, in which I am raising two Jersey Heifers. I plan to attempt to show and sell them at the Missouri State Fair, or put them into the milking herd and receive a part of the milk check.  This year I am also working on a Dairy Cattle Placement project, which involves me working for the farm and recording what my duties are.

What are your future plans? My future plans are to continue with FFA throughout the rest of high school.  I want to go on to the University of Missouri and study Agricultural Communications, and eventually get a career in communications, such as radio, television or printed media.
