Friends and family of Elsberry resident Phyllis Cox honored her on her 80th birthday with a surprise party at the Elsberry United Methodist Church.

In addition to fun and fellowship, those in attendance enjoyed a carry-in dinner and dessert.

Following the meal, Pastor Paul Garvin delivered a speech in which he jokingly referred to Cox’s age and recognized her for her invaluable assistance with regard to the new film “Noah” and thanked her for providing such detailed first-hand accounts of the event to the film crew.

After Garvin’s speech, Cox thanked everyone for coming and said that she loved everyone in the room.

Then with a quick look and a wink toward Garvin she amended her statement and said, “Well, almost everyone.”

Cox’s warmth and sense of humor won over everyone in the crowd.
