Track and Field at Elsberry faces a rebuilding year
Track and Field Coach Scott Cleveland said this year he faces a rebuild for his boys team.
After a relatively successful track and field season in 2013, Head Coach Scott Cleveland and his varsity boy’s team must now find a way to win without last year’s dominant seniors.
“It’s going to be a tough year for us,” said Cleveland. “We just don’t have the numbers that we need. Our biggest loss this year is in not having Charles Fraction. He went to state last season in the open 400, the 4×4 relay and the long jump. Not a lot of people can say they made it to state in three separate events.”
Cleveland said he has been coaching for approximately seven years and he has never seen things this lean.
Last year Elsberry sent four boys to state in the relay event, but this season they don’t even have enough people to put a relay team together at all.
“The school has a lot of track and field potential, but because of FFA, baseball and other things like that we just don’t have the numbers to put together a team for relay races,” said Cleveland.
