Elsberry girls return to track and field but with much smaller numbers
Despite the smaller turnout for Track and Field this year, Coach Hector Bencomo is hoping for a quality performance.
This season promises to be a challenging one for Head Coach Hector Bencomo and his track and field team.
“We’re stretched pretty thin,” said Bencomo. “We don’t have a lot of kids returning and we’re short on numbers. It looks like we may end up with about seven girls all together so we’re going to have to focus on just one relay, the 4×100.”
Bencomo said he has lost returning athletes this season due to other conflicting sports and activities, but injuries have also played a role.
“Hannah Arne was expected to compete as our high jumper this season, but she was injured toward the end of basketball season,” said Bencomo.
The extent of Arne’s injuries is unknown and Bencomo said he isn’t sure exactly when she will be able to return to competitive sports.
Bencomo’s returning players include Passion Hunter-Edwards, Felicia Pruitt, Tanner Bencomo and Madison Cleveland.
