Attorney Gary Grunick announces candidacy for Circut Judge
With 38 years of experience as a Missouri attorney, Gary Grunick sees his candidacy for Circuit Judge of the 45th Circuit Court, covering both Lincoln and Pike Counties, as an opportunity to use his leadership and experience to help the people and the Judicial Court System as we face the challenges of the fastest growing case load in the state. Seeing both sides of the courtroom, Grunick has tried more than 125 jury trials to verdict as both a prosecutor and defense attorney. Grunick has also served as an appellate judge on our nation’s highest military court, The Air Force Court of Military Review, in Washington, D.C.
Previously serving for 21 years as a Judge Advocate in the US Air Force, Colonel Gary Grunick has a wide range of legal expertise and administrative law experience. He was the Chief Defense Counsel for all of the US Air Force bases in the south-eastern United States and Panama. He is a veteran of the Persian Gulf War (1991), and was the Staff Judge Advocate for the Combined International Task Force for Provide Comfort helping establish humanitarian aid to the Kurdish population in Northern Iraq. Colonel Grunick was also the Chief of Civil Law for the USAF-Europe where he negotiated lease and munitions agreements with several European countries.
Colonel Grunick’s military decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, and the Air Force Commendation Medal. Upon his retirement from the military, he returned to his home in the St. Louis area and private law practice. For the last seven years, Gary has been a Public Defender for the State of Missouri in Lincoln County, representing over three-hundred individuals a year in court proceedings and successfully litigating criminal trials. He understands the culture and judicial system of Lincoln and Pike Counties.
Gary is also active in charity and community organizations. In his eighth year as a trustee for LifeWay Christian Resources in Nashville, TN, Gary is an executive board member, and chairman of the business and audit committees. He is a member of Troy First Baptist Church, serving as church moderator, teaching adults, and involved with mission projects and trips.
Gary received a B.S. Degree in Business Administration (1970) and a Juris Doctorate Degree in Law (1973) from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He and his wife of 42 years, Elizabeth (Libby), both grew up in north St. Louis County and have resided on their family farm in Lincoln County for the past six years. The Grunick’s only child, Ann Marie, died in a church van accident in January 1994.
Libby’s family has lived in Lincoln County, MO for approximately 165 years. On her grandmother’s side, great-great grandfather Robert Reynolds Logan, and wife Elizabeth Eleanor Irvin settled in Lincoln County in March 1848 where they raised twelve children. Libby’s grandfather, Ezekiel Thomas (E.T.) Frazier lived and farmed for 100 years in Lincoln County. Her great-great-grandfather, Ezekiel Davis Frazier married Sarah Easter Elsberry in 1852. Sarah’s brother, Robert, gave the land for the town of Elsberry, in Lincoln County, Missouri. Gary and Libby enjoy living on the farm property once owned by her grandfather, Ekie, and preserving for the future the legacy given to them from past generations.
