Lady Indians defeat Louisiana at home, but lose to New Haven on the road
The Lady Indians made quick work of the Louisiana Lady Bulldogs, but struggled against New Haven on the road.
The Elsberry Lady Indians didn’t stop to gather any moss after winning third place in the Bowling Green Invitational Tournament on Jan. 31.
Instead, they opted for a repeat performance of their first-round victory over Louisiana by defeating the Lady Bulldogs 55-30 at home on Feb. 3.
“We had already played Louisiana in the Bowling Green Tournament,” said Head Coach Hector Bencomo. “It was a late game and they stuck with us neck and neck. We played poorly and they played really well. They pressed us when we weren’t ready for it and overall we just weren’t in our element.”
Bencomo said he talked with the girls after that game and they decided as a team not just to beat Louisiana at home, but to beat them in a fashion that would leave them with no doubt as to the type of team Elsberry has.
Bencomo and his team knew exactly what needed to be done in order for such a victory to occur.
