Elsberry Middle School recently held its annual Geography Bee for grades five through eight.

The winner of the Bee gets the opportunity to advance and compete at the state level.

First year teacher Chris Tiller, Middle School Social Studies teacher, organized the event.

All students were engaged in a friendly competition in each of their classrooms with each student finishing with a percentage.

The top 10 students from all participating grades then advanced to the final round.

These students then competed against each other to gain the number one spot, which turned out to be taken by seventh grade student, Trevor Anthony.

Rounding out the top three spots were Nathan Miller with second and Carolyn Wehmeyer with third.

The other seven finalists were Maranda Burke, Danielle Eairheart, Meghan O’Driscoll, Carson Trammell, Juan Valencia, Cassidy Young and Faith Zimmerman.

Anthony now advances to the next round, which will be a written exam.

Depending on how well he scores, he has the chance to advance to the next round on April 4.
