New officer elections for Joseph R. Palmer Library Board
The Joseph R. Palmer Family Memorial Library Board has elected new officers for 2014.
Kayla Carter and Beverly Presswood will be returning as treasurer and secretary, but former vice-president Mike Parker will be replaced by Don Bowers and out-going president Lisa Boling will be replaced by Adam Presswood.
“Lisa has been with us since 1996 and she was a very steady hand,” said librarian Sarah Hunt. “Her background was in banking and business and she knew how to run a meeting and get things done.”
Hunt said she also appreciated Boling’s help with the library’s finances, in particular the Exxon stock she knew how to manage.
“She was excellent and I’m sorry she had to go, but her family situation changed and she’s spending a lot more time with them now,” said Hunt. “She did say she might be back in the future.”
Hunt said she’s looking forward to having Adam Presswood as the new president.
“He’s got lots of new ideas and also lots of great organization,” said Hunt. “When we’re getting ready for March events it’s always Adam who has great ideas for entertainment and themes. I expect we’ll have some great upcoming March events with him as president.”
Previous March events have featured such attractions as Civil War speakers and acapella quartets.
This year’s event will have a 1950s malt shop motif, and the library has booked Terry Phillips, a St. Louis-based Elvis impersonator to provide the entertainment.
The library is always looking for new ways to raise money in addition to the March event and Hunt said she and Presswood have already had some discussions regarding fundraising for 2014.
Hunt is also anticipating great things from Bowers in his new role as vice-president.
“Don has been involved in almost everything there is in Elsberry,” said Hunt. “He knows a lot about the town and he is a very good promoter of the library. I appreciate that about Don and I know that will continue.”
